Duties: The occupant of this position will be working in the Microengineering section of SES. The Microengineering section operates a Class 35/350 Clean Room with a range of Microfabrication equipment including a PGIR, PVD, PECVD/RIE, Micro-lithography, Wafer Bonding, Wire Bonding, Flip-chip Bonding, and Metrology. The core technical activities will be product, process and capability development relating to the SES client base, primarily the DSTO S&T Divisions.
In carrying out the duties of the position, the occupant will operate limited technical direction from a Senior Microengineering Officer in undertaking work requiring individual commitment, ability and professional judgement.
The duties of the occupant include:
- Undertake Microengineering project management activities, process development, and improvement activities as required aimed towards the achievement of immediate S&T Customer objectives and longer range capability development tasks.
- Under limited technical direction from the Senior Microengineering Officer perform the following:
• Undertake moderately complex process development and improvement activities of considerable complexity associated with Microfabrication activities undertaken in SES.
• Undertake the management of small to medium projects for S&T Customers (using System of Work Processes and Project Management tools available in SES). Includes liaison with S&T customers and other technology groups (maintaining technical networks).
• Provide expertise and technical advice in a broad range of Microfabrication areas.
• Participate in procurement activities pertaining to the acquisition of Microengineering equipment.
• Assist in facility management activities, including the management or direct undertaking of maintenance activities.
• Use metrology equipment such as an Elliposometer, Stylus Surface Profiler, Measurement Microscope, and Scanning Electron Microscope to collect information relating to the properties of deposited materials. Use other surface science techniques available to analyse thin film material properties (such as Electron Dispersion Spectroscopy (EDS), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), etc).
• Apply process control, scientific data analysis, and design of experiments tools to study and model the behaviour of processes.
• Undertake improvement activities in respect to OH&S processes associated with working in a chemical laboratory containing hazardous chemicals and materials.
- Actively contribute to research, development of new concepts, ideas, methods, and approaches to technology development activities related to Micro-Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS), Electro-Optic System (EOS), and Microelectronic Packaging (Multi-Chip Module).
- Assist with the development and maintenance of Process Databases and prepare Process Documentation.
- Prepare, implement and review quality processes and instructions within an ISO 9001 accredited quality system.
