Citizenship and Security Requirements
-

- Australian citizenship
Citizenship and security clearances are required for all employees of DSTO, including vacation employment students.
Citizenship
DSTO requires that candidates are Australian citizens or eligible and willing to apply for citizenship.
Australian citizenship is available to people who have been permanent residents of Australia for two years or more and who wish to make their commitment to Australia.
Further information, including application forms, is available from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
Security requirements
DSTO employees are often involved in classified work, and must therefore qualify for a Department of Defence security clearance. Depending on the level of security clearance required, successful applicants must provide information on their identity and background for up to the past 10 years. This may include details about previous employment, education, travel and residences, relatives, contact with officials from other countries, and membership of clubs and associations.
The information is forwarded to the Defence Security Branch. Inquiries are made to verify your identity and to check your background and character. This process takes some time and it is worthwhile staying in touch with the supervisor and recruitment officer while your clearance is being processed.
More details about the process can be obtained from DSTO's recruitment officers.
