DSTO is looking for motivated people who have (or are currently working toward) undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications with strong academic achievement, proven research skills or relevant experience and well developed communication skills in disciplines in broad areas of work.
Recent graduates, students in the final year of a degree, and post-graduate students, are encouraged to apply.

September – 2009: First round of offers to successful candidates will commence.
AUGUST INTAKE:
16 August 2009: Applications for the August intake in 2009 have closed.
Aug - September, 2009: Initial screening and assessment of applications received to date takes place.
October – 2009: First round of offers to successful candidates will commence.
Selection of staff at DSTO
DSTO uses a range of different selection methods. Interviews do not always form part of the selection process. Applicants should therefore obtain as much information as is available about the research area of interest, and should include all relevant information in their application to maximise their potential to move on to the next stage in the recruitment process.
Salary
Positions may be offered at the following Science & Technology - S&T (Australian Public Service – APS) classification levels:
- S&T Level 3 (APS 4-5) $53,622 – $64,062, and
- S&T Level 4 (APS 6) $65,520 - $74,846.
The classification level may be dependent on the level of qualifications attained, knowledge, skills and experience of the successful applicant.
Citizenship Requirements
Applicants must be Australian citizens or eligible and willing to apply for citizenship. Australian citizenship may be available to people who have been permanent residents of Australia for two years or more and who wish to make their commitment to Australia. Further information is available from the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
Employment Conditions
The terms and conditions of employment are defined in the Defence Collective Agreement 2006–2009. These can be discussed in detail during the latter stages of the recruitment process.
