Introduction

Each year DSTO offers a limited number of scholarships over the University summer vacation period.  Successful applicants undertake a 12-week research project at a DSTO establishment and receive a tax-free stipend of $3,950. *  Further funding for travel and/or accommodation is not available.  Students should take into account the stipend amount when considering the location of projects.

DSTO is now offering scholarships for the 2008-09 summer period.  Successful students will commence work on specific projects at DSTO sites on Monday 1 December 2008.  Projects will be completed by Friday 20 February 2009 in time for return to full-time study in Semester 1, 2009.

The primary objective of the scholarship is to provide promising tertiary students with a means by which they may engage in and gain experience in research during the summer vacation period.  The scholarship provides an opportunity for the students to further develop their skills and knowledge for educational purposes in a research environment pertinent to their tertiary studies.

There are approximately 30 scholarships available throughout DSTO sites including, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Stirling, Western Australia. A list of project details is available by opening the attachment on the right-hand-side of this page.

Selection is based primarily upon academic merit and the alignment between each student’s course of study and the available projects.

Please note that students must meet certain scholarship requirements to qualify for the tax-free stipend.
