Centres of Expertise with University of Adelaide

DSTO has established two centres of expertise, one in photonics and one in microwave radar under a Strategic Alliance with the University of Adelaide.
To support these centres and provide research leadership, DSTO has also created Professorial Chairs in photonics and microwave radar. Under the arrangement for photonics, Professor Tanya Monro, an internationally recognised expert in optical fibre technology spends one day per week at DSTO working with DSTO researchers on photonics projects involving the design and development of novel waveguides and fibres.
DSTO is also funding two post doctoral fellows to work in the photonics centre of expertise.
Similar arrangements apply to the microwave radar centre of expertise, with Professor Shane Cloud spending time at DSTO collaborating with researchers. In time there is an expectation that joint projects between the two centres will occur.
Through these centres of expertise, DSTO researchers will also have access to high calibre international visitors who regularly spend time at the University of Adelaide.
