Further Information

Results of Round 13

Successful CTD projects for the 2009 CTD Program Round 13:

  • ADF C41 Connector (Saab Systems Pty Ltd) – The Widely Integrated Systems Environment (WISE) is an innovative software technology that will connect ADF’s legacy and candidate Command and Control, Communications, Computing and Intelligence (C4I) systems together into a common environment, enabling the flow of information between them, regardless of the architecture and communication standards that they use.
  • Network Centric Geospatial Information Infrastructure and Services (SMS Defence Solutions Pty Ltd) – The proposed CTD will significantly improve Defence’s geospatial information capability in the area of autonomous and disconnected operations. The proposal is for the development of caching technology to substitute local storage for network connectivity.
  • Enhanced UAV ISR Operations (BAE Systems Australia Limited) – The CTD will exploit recent advances in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) technologies and integrate them into an enhanced ISR capability for a UAV. It will enable the ADF to make more accurate assessments of information in operational environments through increased autonomy in target detection and recognition, reduced reliance on GPS for navigation and improved use of bandwidth.
  • Infrasonic Advanced Acoustic Generator (Thales Australia Limited) – A high power low frequency underwater acoustic generator able to sweep for mines targeting the acoustic signature of large vessels that frequent Australian ports. The project will involve recording the acoustic signature of large RAN vessels and an assessment of the suitability of the technology for RAN operational needs.
  • Securing Top Secret Data in a Mobile Environment (Secure Systems Limited) – Development of a secure hard disk drive for laptop computers which meets Defence Signals Directorate’s security requirements for the protection of Top Secret data at rest, allowing the laptops to be handled as restricted devices when stored and transported.
  • Monitoring and Communicating Diver Vital Signs (Blue Glue Pty Ltd) – This project aims to minimise risks to divers during operations and training through the development of technology designed to monitor and communicate information about divers’ vital signs. The new system will transmit data from the diver to the dive supervisor, and will enable text messaging from the dive supervisor to the diver.
  • 360 Degree Close-In Situational Awareness Analysis System for Ground Vehicles (Sentient Vision Systems Pty Ltd) – A system to detect and highlight potential threats from both moving and static vehicles. It will provide a real-time capability to identify and track moving targets either approaching or on a course to intersect with the vehicle, and will highlight these threats to a user stationed inside the vehicle. Analysis will rank threats whilst eliminating movement due to environmental factors such as tree motion.
