Topic: Autonomous Underwater Surveillance Sensor Network - update on the Capability & Technology Demonstrator project
Sandro Ghiotto has been involved in underwater acoustics related to shallow and deep water propagation estimation, surface ship and submarine noise measurement, through water communication, sonar performance analysis, underwater target tracking and environmental impact assessment. Sandro has been at L-3 Nautronix for 10 years and has been instrumental in the design and testing of systems for various L-3 Nautronix prototype and production systems, including AUSSNet. He holds a BSc in Physics from Curtin University, WA.
Abstract: The AUSSNet CTD addresses an emerging requirement for underwater surveillance data to be made rapidly available to a network of users, whilst surveillance operators remain covert. AUSSNet is an underwater network of acoustic arrays and signal processing systems, rapidly deployable in areas of surveillance interest and interconnected by acoustic communication. The underwater ‘nodes’ of the network are designed to operate continuously and autonomously during their deployment, detecting acoustic events and reporting on them during windows of opportunity via a number of channels, including satellite networks with the aid of submersible radio/satellite buoys. This presentation reports on the status of the CTD as it is approaching the demonstration phase, and proposed future developments.
