Increasingly, mechanical devices whether fixed systems, land vehicles, marine vehicles (including submarines) or aircraft (including helicopters), are being managed using various Condition Monitoring (CM) or Condition- Based Maintenance (CBM) approaches. All these approaches rely on health (condition) and usage monitoring systems and are most suited to ensuring availability, reliability and safety of critical and high-value assets.

The DSTO series of International Conferences on Health and Usage Monitoring is an established conference in this area and has been run in conjunction with every Australian International Air Show since 1999. Since 2005, it has also formed part of the Australian International Aerospace Congress.

Accordingly, HUMS2009 will form part of the Thirteenth Australian International Aerospace Congress (AIAC13) and will include sessions at the Australian International Air Show. All submissions of abstracts and papers will be handled electronically via the AIAC13 website.

PACIFIC 2008 International Maritime Exposition

Human Factors in Network-Centric Warfare Symposium

Date: 1 May, 2006 to 3 May, 2006

Location: Sydney

Human Factors Issues in Network-Centric Warfare was an international symposium sponsored by TTCP Human Resources and Performance Group (HUM), Technical Panel (TP) 7 Human Systems Integration Air, and organised by Air Operations Division DSTO, held in Sydney Australia from 1-3 May 2006.

The symposium brought together researchers and members of the operational community from all five TTCP countries that are contributing to research in the human factors of network-centric operations in the air, land, and maritime domains.

The symposium commenced with a Keynote Address by BRIG Gerard Fogarty describing how the human dimension of NCW is to be progressed in the Australian Defence Force. 18 papers were presented, covering a range of NCW topics from a human factors perspective, including teamwork, communications, collaboration, social and organisational issues, display technologies, coalition interoperability, training and selection, methodological and measurement issues, and how to ensure the human dimension is part of capability development and acquisition processes.

The symposium was very successful in providing a clear picture of the key issues and the state of research on these issues, and a forum to discuss the way ahead and potential avenues of collaboration under TTCP in this area.
