The Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Advanced Science and Technology

Collaboration

Date:
18 May, 2011

The Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) is looking for an outstanding United States researcher for the Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Advanced Science and Technology.

DSTO is sponsoring the Distinguished Chair to bring to Australia senior United States researchers, at professor, associate professor or equivalent level research scientist, to expand their horizons and share their knowledge and experience with their Australian colleagues.

The Distinguished Chair is a four to five month appointment at DSTO or another research institution in Australia linked to DSTO. During the appointment, the Chair will work on a specific research project in a priority area for DSTO and engage with faculty and students through guest lectures, seminars and other opportunities. A national speaking tour that is part of the program will enable additional opportunities to provide information about the research and the program.

The research project must meet the Fulbright program objectives of fostering mutual understanding through educational and cultural exchanges. The program will run for three years with a new Chair appointed annually.

Fulbright fact sheetA key benefit of the program is the opportunity for the Chair to explore longer-term collaboration and to create new links with institutions in Australia.

The Distinguished Chair program is viewed as among the most prestigious appointments in the Fulbright Scholar Program.

The Fulbright Distinguished Chair program operates through the Council for International Exchange of Scholars. The Distinguished Chair in Advanced Science and Technology is one of only two such programs in Australia. Only about 40 Fulbright Distinguished Chairs are in existence, across 15 countries.
