Annual Statement of National Security Science and Innovation Priorities
The inaugural Annual Statement of National Security Science and Innovation Priorities was released on 15 November 2011.
The Statement will continue the dialogue between national security agencies and researchers, entrepreneurs and funding programs commenced under the National Security Science and Innovation Strategy.
The Statement identifies six priority national security themes where the application of science and innovation will be particularly important over the next five years to help address national security challenges. The Statement is a deliverable under the National Security Science and Innovation Strategy and aims to focus effort on high priority issues and strengthen cooperation in the national security science and innovation community. It was prepared by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, in consultation with the national security community and representatives of the science and innovation community.
The six priority themes are:
- cyberspace and electronic security;
- intelligence, including data mining and data management;
- chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) detection, safety and mitigation;
- explosive detection technologies and blast mitigation tools;
- border security, including identity management; and
- extreme environmental events.
