Nature is a master of camouflage. The chameleon and stick insect are perfect examples of how creatures can blend in with their environments to fool their enemies and prey.
Scientists look to nature when designing and researching new methods of camouflage for our defence forces, making men and equipment harder to detect. It is the ultimate game of hide and seek that is taken from nature.
The Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) is part of Australia's Department of Defence. DSTO's role is to ensure the expert, impartial and innovative application of science and technology to the defence of Australia and its national interests.
