The Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Peter Leahy, today launched the annual Land Warfare Conference in Adelaide, saying the contribution of science and industry was vital to ensure that the Army could continue with its combat operations in the field and further develop the larger Hardened and Networked Army
“Events such as the Land Warfare Conference are one way in which the Army, defence scientists, academia and defence industry can communicate to solve the problems which military forces face in the modern world,” Lieutenant General Leahy said.
“The Land Warfare Conference brings together those very people who can provide the solutions to networking the Army in today’s digital world. Science and industry will also provide the solutions for the Hardened and Networked Army to ensure it is survivable, durable and sustainable to cope with the demands of the modern battlefield and its current high tempo of operations.”
Lieutenant General Leahy delivered the opening address to conference delegates. The Land Warfare Conference, a joint initiative of the Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) and Army, has attracted 1600 delegates to the Adelaide Convention Centre, and includes an extensive trade exhibition in the Centre’s Exhibition Hall.
Delegates have come from DSTO, Army, academia, Australia’s growing defence industry, international military and industry. Displays at the accompanying trade exhibition include exhibitors from Australian and overseas companies.
“This is a very focused audience. I applaud their efforts to support our soldiers today and into the future,” Lieutenant General Leahy said.
“The Conference provides a forum to share visionary ideas, canvass business opportunities, consider new acquisitions and seek collaborative research arrangements. The Land Warfare Conference will assist Australia in making the best use of the Defence Budget by developing strategies to fulfil the training requirements and facilities that suit current military and government requirements,” said Lieutenant General Leahy.
