Recipients of the Minister’s Award for Achievement in Defence Science

1988 - Mr Mike Turner for developing the Craft of Opportunity concept for minesweeping.

1989 - Dr Fred Earl for work on the Jindalee Over-the-Horizon Radar.

1990 - Dr Alan Baker for research into bonded composite repair technology and its application to RAAF aircraft.

1991 - Dr David Oldfield for research into anechoic materials for the Australian Collins class submarine hull.

1992 - Dr Stuart Anderson for his contribution to the Jindalee Over-the-Horizon Radar, particularly with regard to its ocean surveillance and meteorological capabilities.

1993 - Dr John Ritter for his contribution to the development of high performance steel and welds in support of the construction of the Australian Collins class submarine.

1994 - Mr Brian Andrews for his contribution in leading the development of the Defence Organisation Integrated Communications (DORIC) program.

1995 - Dr Thomas Ryall and Dr Albert Wong for their contribution in the area of fundamental research into thermoelastic stress analysis.

1996 - Mr John Curtin for his substantial and sustained contributions to the field of electronic warfare, in particular in electronic support measures.

1997 - Mr David Graham for the excellent standard of leadership management and technical expertise demonstrated with the testing of the F/A-18 aircraft under the International Follow-On Structural Test Project.

1998 - Dr Mark Anderson for his outstanding scientific creativity, and record of high quality and original research in the area of information security.

1999 - Dr Ian Doherty for his sustained and distinguished research, leadership and personal contributions in support of Australia's intelligence and information security functions.

2000 - Dr Chris Norwood for his outstanding scientific leadership and contribution to the management and control of noise and vibration in maritime platforms, particularly the Collins Class Submarine.

2001 - Dr Jackie Craig for her outstanding contribution to the development of the Australian Defence Organisation’s imagery capability.

2002 - Mr Graeme Egglestone for demonstrating leadership, professionalism, genuine creativity and achievement in the delivery of critical materiel ensembles for the Australian Defence Forces to enable them to perform in the most demanding of environments.

2004 - Dr Todd Mansell for his outstanding contribution to maritime operations, especially his role in the replacement of the combat system for the Collins Class submarine.

2005 - Dr Tony Lindsay for his outstanding achievement in enhancing protection for ADF aircraft against electronic warfare threats.

2006 - Dr Stephen Cimpoeru for his outstanding achievement in enhancing the survivability and protection of Army vehicles on operational deployments, ensuring the safety of Australian soldiers.

2007 - Dr Bruce Hinton for his outstanding achievement in preventing and controlling corrosion in the Australian Defence Force aircraft fleet.

2008 - Dr Lindsay Wake for his outstanding achievements in delivering highly innovative science and technology and transitioning new technology in the area of coating systems, and paint and sealant technology for the Navy, Army and Air Force.

2009 - Dr Gordon Frazer for his internationally recognised expertise and inspirational leadership in advancing Australian and Allied over-the-horizon radar (OTHR) capability, and his influence and support of the indigenous High Frequency (HF) radar industry.

2010 - Mr Loris Molent for his work on developing solutions to determine the fatigue life of aircraft and their structural components.

2011 - Dr Cheng Anderson for her pioneering role in radar that has reduced the vulnerability of Australia's Defence platforms over three decades.

2012 - Dr Doug Cato for his extensive research achievements in underwater acoustics and the effect of sound on marine mammals.
