About the DSTO Alumni Association

The DSTO Alumni Association offers former DSTO personnel the opportunity to belong to the extended DSTO Community.

Our Alumni

Members of the DSTO Alumni Association have the opportunity to maintain friendships, networks and ties to the scientific community. Members of the DSTO Alumni Association receive the benefits of:

  • Receiving scientific publications, including Connections and Australian Defence Science
  • Attending unclassified lectures
  • Social activities with both current and former DSTO personnel

The DSTO Alumni Association exists to maintain mutually beneficial relationships between DSTO and its former employees. The Alumni Association currently has over 500 members, and is continuing to grow.

The DSTO Alumni Association is strongly supported by the Chief Defence Scientist. The main purpose of the DSTO Alumni Association is to:

  • Provide members with the opportunity to support DSTO and its future. This could include mentoring, attending events and briefings, assisting in recruitment, involvement in special taskforces and a variety of other activities;
  • Keep former employees up to date with news and developments within DSTO;
  • Recognise and value the skills, experience and expertise of former employees and utilise these to assist DSTO in achieving its goals; and
  • Provide mutually beneficial links between DSTO, universities, industry and other government and scientific organisations.

Membership to the DSTO Alumni Association is open to all former DSTO employees.  Registration can be performed:

As a member you will be able to receive regular updates on the current work being undertaken by DSTO, Connections and Australian Defence Science.  Members will also be informed of Alumni activities through newsletters and this website.

History of Maribyrnong - "To Explore and Exploit the Unknown"

"To Explore and Exploit the Unknown”  the book that recollects some significant events in the cultural history of defence science at Maribyrnong has now been published.

Celebration of our History

DSTO published "Anticipating Tomorrow's Defence Needs: A Century of Australian Defence Science" in 2007, to celebrate 100 years of defence science in Australia. Please email maureen.barker@dsto.defence.gov.au if you would like to receive a copy.
