DSTO Alumni – Melbourne Regional Committee
The Chief Defence Scientist appointed Dr Bill Schofield as the Executive Board Member for DSTO Alumni – Melbourne in May 2005. Membership on the Melbourne Regional Committee is open to other self elected members of the DSTO Alumni – Melbourne to be determined at the annual regional meeting.
Regional Meetings
An analysis of returned questionnaires revealed members preference for regular executive board meetings, occasional social activities and a strong desire to remain abreast of issues in the Defence Scientific Community. DSTO Chief Defence Scientist, Dr Roger Lough, has announced that DSTO Alumni members will also be able to attend unclassified briefings.Analysis of the returned questionnaires is being undertaken to determine members preferred regional activities. Once this analysis is complete, planning will commence to develop a calendar of Alumni activities for all regions that will be posted onto the website.
The launch of the DSTO Alumni Association – Melbourne took place at Maribyrnong on 3 November to coincide with the launch of the book “History of defence science at DSTO Maribyrnong”.
Ancient Aeronauts & Mariners (AA&M)
DSTO Alumni - Melbourne have been fortunate to gain the support of Ancient Aeronauts and Mariners (AA&M), a voluntary organisation of DSTO retirees from 1982, to join the DSTO Alumni Association. The history of AA&M is very interesting and highlights the benefits of establishing the DSTO Alumni Association, to ensure the valuable history of DSTO, is retained in our organisation.
