Infrared suppression systems aim to reduce the capability of heat-seeking missiles to detect the IR radiation emanating from hot engine components and from engine exhaust plumes.

DSTO's infrared suppression test facility is used to test scale models of installed passive infrared suppression (IRS) systems for rotary and fixed wing aircraft. The results from these tests assist in the evaluation of full-scale systems and their effect on aircraft survivability.  This fact sheet describes the DSTO facility and how it is used.
