All these approaches rely on health (condition) and usage monitoring systems and are most suited to ensuring availability, reliability and safety of critical and high-value assets.

The DSTO series of International Conferences on Health and Usage Monitoring is an established conference in this area and has been run in conjunction with every Australian International Air Show since 1999. Since 2005, it has also formed part of the Australian International Aerospace Congress.

Accordingly, HUMS2009 will form part of the Thirteenth Australian International Aerospace Congress (AIAC13) and will include sessions at the Australian International Air Show.
BUDGET 2008-09

Date: 15 May, 2008

Media Release Number: 52/08

Research Funding to Maintain Defence Capability Edge in Australia

Australian troops will receive the best possible equipment and technology to protect our country after the Rudd Labor Government committed $372.5 million to the Defence Science and Technology Organisation in the 2008-09 Budget.

The Australian Governments commitment to researching and developing new ideas and equipment will support our troops in Afghanistan, Timor-Leste, here at home and on any future deployments.

The Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, Warren Snowdon, said This strong commitment will ensure the Australian Defence Force continues to be equipped and protected with leading-edge technology and systems while on operational deployments.

DSTO will also manage $61 million over the next three years to ensure the Capability and Technology Demonstrator Program achieves better outcomes for Defence. The program fosters technology innovation in the Australian defence industry and is one of the key mechanisms through which DSTO engages small to medium sized enterprises.

DSTO advises on the purchase of defence equipment that improves the effectiveness of the armed forces and supports Australias defence and national security efforts.

DSTOs science and technology program is respected throughout the world and allows the organisation to work closely with the Australian defence industry, the broader science community, including Australias premier research universities, and international partners.

Collaborative research and development undertaken with other defence agencies around the world gives the Australian Defence Force access to leading-edge defence technologies and improves interoperability with Coalition forces.

Key collaboration mechanisms include the Defence Future Capability Technology Centre Program, the Technical Cooperation Program and a range of commercial agreements with industry and academia.

Media contacts:

Kate Sieper (Warren Snowdon): 02 6277 7620 or 0488 484 689
