Operations analysis

We use scientific methods to assess the effectiveness of military operations.

Our assessments are used as a basis for analysis and judgement on current capabilities and priorities for the Australian Defence Force's (ADF's) future developments, acquisitions and tactics.

Our Operations Research (OR) refers to the application of interdisciplinary science to complex problems arising in the direction and management of large systems. For the defence context, this area enables the evaluation and analysis of military problems to provide decision makers with a scientific basis to improve military operations or capability.

Better informed decision making may utilise analysis to predict and compare the outcomes of alternative strategies and decisions.

This area includes the development of mathematical models, assists in the selection and utilisation of new Defence capabilities; undertakes force development studies, combined operational effectiveness appraisals, platform and system concept studies, requirement definition studies; the development and utilisation of scenarios, and; tactical development and support to operations.
